Why does my candle jar have soot on it?

This could be caused by the wick being too long at the time it was lit. The jar may develop soot on the inside if the wick is burning too hot. Be sure to pinch off a little of the burnt end of the wooden wick or trim off the natural 100% cotton tealight wick each time you light it. If the flame is too big, extinguish the candle, trim the wick to 3/8" for wooden and 1/4" for cotton wicks and re-light.

Why is trimming the wick every time I light my candle important?

Trimming the wick to before lighting the candles are very important to keep the flame from developing a flame that is too tall, which can be hazardous. A large flame can be a fire hazard, develop soot on the inside of the jar, and result in a candle that doesn't perform to its best capabilities. Don't allow the trimmed piece to remain inside the candle. This can be a potential fire hazard.

Should I worry about the dried flowers or jewels/crystals burning or catching on fire?

Most of the flowers have a wax coating, but it is always a good idea to remove them once they start to slide into the melt pool and flow to the wick, which too many ingredients can cause burning issues. That is why I make my candles with a minimal amount of flowers. 24K Gold leaf and crystals do not burn and you can remove these items with a tweezer if you like, but they will not affect the burning of the candle.

Is it ok to leave my candle burning while it's out of sight?

No! This can be a potential fire hazard. A burning candle should never be left unattended, for any reason. It's important to extinguish any burning candle when there is a possibility of it burning out-of-sight.

How long will my candle last?

Our candles have an average burn time of about 2-4 hours per ounce depending on the container and wick size. You should never burn a candle for more than 2-4 hours at a time for optimal candle performance. Trim the wooden wick before your first burn to 1/4 inch. Before your next burn, we suggest using candle wick trimmers to trim the wood wick to 1/4 inch again before re-lighting. If the wick is too long, it cannot absorb the wax and burn properly.

How long should I burn my candle?

For the initial burn, trim the wick to and allow to burn 2-4 hours to develop an even burn pool. This can extend the life of your candle and will prevent "tunneling." Once the initial burn has been established, a candle should never be burned for more than 4 hours. After 4 hours, extinguish, allow to cool, trim the wick and discard excess, and re-light. Your candle should be discarded when there is only about 1/2" of wax at the bottom of the jar. Burning all the way down can be a potential fire hazard.

Why does the wax on my candle sometimes look strange?

Coconut apricot creme wax is 100% natural and has a slow "cooling" period. If a candle cools too quickly, it can develop "frosting" and/or "wet spots." These are completely normal side effects of coconut soy wax blend and have no effect on the quality of the candle or its performance.

Why is my candle not burning evenly?

A candle may not burn evenly if it is extinguished before developing an even melt pool, meaning that the wax should be completely melted from side to side before extinguishing. If this happens, allow the wax to met all the way to each side.

What is "frosting" and why is my candle showing signs of it?

Frosting can develop if your candle cools too quickly. It is normal for this to happen with soy wax. It does not affect the quality or performance of the candle.

What are my candles made from?

Dreambird Candles are made from 100% natural coconut apricot creme wax blend made right here in the USA. Only the highest quality essential oils used. They are eco-friendly, cruelty free, earth-friendly, and vegan. Our candles are safer, free of carcinogens, reproductive toxins, and other concerning chemicals. Our wicks are made from natural wood and tealight wicks with 100% all natural cotton. Our wicks are lead and zinc free.

Where are Dreambird Candles made?

Each candle is handmade in my studio in Kingston, WA. I make each and every one of them myself and there is no mass producing, which ensures a quality product. Each candle is unique in its own way.
